Industries: Home Design
Serving the greater Houston area.
Ron Jackson started in the construction industry as a teenager. It was an after school job cleaning up scraps and waste on home builders sites at the beginning. He then went on to work in the summers as a framers helper and then progressed to a full member of a framing crew building homes in Central Texas.Through the years and the ups and downs in the industry since the 1980's he has worked at most labor positions on a job site ( Framing, Electrical, Plumbing, and Trim Carpentry) in both commercial and residential construction. Gaining a wide variety of skills and experience in the home building process. After returning to school to study architecture he has spent the last 25 plus years, designing custom homes and remodels in the Texas market, training and designing homes for some of the premier residential design firms in the Houston area.In 2018, Ron opened R.B.J. Architectural as a way to bring together his multiple decades of training in residential design, and the construction industry , to form a firm that would service home owners and custom home builders, with this unique combination of skills. His vision was to form a small boutique residential design firm that works in concert with the homeowner, and the builder to bring the most out of each residential project, to maximize the potential of each home while staying within the client's budget.
"To describe someone or something as, “making dreams come true” often sounds like hyperbole or salesmanship, but, when it comes to Ron Jackson and the plans he designed for our major home renovation and addition, that phrase really is the most appropriate way to describe my experience with him. Without Ron’s talent, effort, and commitment to our complicated project, we certainly wouldn’t have the gorgeous, livable, well-designed home that we do today. I think the highest compliment of Ron’s work came from our framer who told me, over and over again, what a fantastic space Ron had designed and how clear and well-considered his plans were for actually executing the construction – something apparently rare among design professionals. I could trot out the many ways Ron’s work was exceptional – in making the space feel both cozy and airy or in making a 50% increase in square footage to our midcentury ranch somehow feel and look natural and integrated. But what makes Ron stand out from other designers is how he approaches relationships with clients. Certainly, Ron’s experience and responsive communication helped us feel confident in the promise and possibility of the project, whether it was helping evaluate the house and site before we even purchased it or intervening as we navigated our (atypically complicated) permitting process. But it was the way Ron always made time for us over the course of this that truly puts him in a class by himself -- the many meetings and calls we had refining our vision for the project or our several ‘emergency’ calls for help adapting to covid-related supply chain issues or the dozens of frantic text messages I sent at obscene hours about the myriad ‘surprises’ that accompany any remodel or addition. I offer my highest and categorical recommendation for engaging Ron Jackson in any design project."
